Internal Medicine Program Overview

Mission: To provide residents with comprehensive structured cognitive and procedural clinical education in both inpatient and outpatient settings that will enable them to become competent, proficient and professional internists.

Offering Leading-Edge Internal Medicine Residency Program

Skagit Regional Health’s Internal Medicine Residency Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

We have six (6) resident physicians each year level for a total of eighteen (18) residents. Most of the rotations are organized in 4-week blocks. Our residents offer clinic hours in the residency clinic, maintain continuity with their own panel of patients and see patients who are in nursing homes as part of the transitions of care curriculum.

We tailor the training experience for the residents to achieve their goals in becoming competent physicians.

Skagit Regional Health’s board-certified internal medicine physicians work as a team to help each resident find their specific areas of clinical interest. By working together, we help identify skills and interests to expand clinical knowledge. In this way, our faculty members help maximize individual growth in each resident’s key areas of interest and accomplishment.

We offer a wide variety of electives, some of which can be tailored to each resident’s individual learning goals. The rotational curriculum in our residency program is designed to ensure each resident satisfies all the certification requirements of the ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education).

Mentoring for Internal Medicine Residency Program Success

Skagit Regional Health’s Internal Medicine Residency Program curriculum promotes learning through structured and supervised exposure based on an educational model rather than a clinical service model. Supervision and mentoring are hallmarks of our program. Internal Medicine residents are also given additional responsibilities and opportunities as individual training and experience warrant. A qualified medical preceptor is always available for consultation and assistance to each of our residents.
