Residency Application Process
On behalf of Skagit Regional Health's Graduate Medical Education Program, we would like to welcome you to our 2024-2025 residency application process.
Resident candidates must apply to our residency programs through ERAS. We participate in the NRMP Match when ranking resident candidates for the upcoming regular cycle Match season.
On this page you will find our institutional codes, criteria for interviews for both Internal and Family Medicine programs, interview dates, how to prepare for your interview, what to do post interview and helpful hints.
Applying to Our Programs

We are accepting MD, DO and IMG candidate applications. If you are an IMG, your medical school should be listed as recognized by the Medical Board of California. You can look up your medical school on their website here.

Internal Medicine Criteria for Interview
- Resident Candidates must be a US Citizen or Permanent Green Card Holder.
- We are not able to sponsor Visas at this time.
- IMG applicants must be ECFMG eligible. One needs to be ECFMG certified per the guidelines on the ECFMG website, prior to commencement of residency training. The EFCMG website can be reviewed by clicking this link.
- It is preferable that medical school graduation is within the last three years prior to the Match cycle.
- We require 2 letters of recommendation (1 from an IM faculty, 1 from the Dean of Medical School). An optional 3rd letter from a faculty is welcomed (i.e. Research faculty)
- For personal statement, please include the reason as to what got you interested in this area and this specific program.
Internal Medicine Interview Dates for the Match for AY 2023-2024
- IM interviews will take place between October 2024 and January 2025.
- Interviews will be virtual.
- Any additional dates will be listed on ERAS.
- Interview invitations and scheduling will be through Thalamus
- Please provide as much notice as possible if needing to make an interview change to allow us time to fill your spot from our waitlist.
Family Medicine Criteria for Interview
- Passing scores on USMLE or COMLEX Step/Level I and II by the time rank lists are due.
- Medical school graduation must be within the last two years prior to the Match cycle.
- Application must include 3 letters of recommendation and a personal statement regarding their interest in joining our program.
- No more than one failure on COMLEX or USMLE examinations.
- Candidates must be a US Citizen or Permanent Green Card Holder. We are not able to sponsor or accept Visas at this time.
- IMG applicants must be ECFMG eligible. One needs to be ECFMG certified per the guidelines on the ECFMG website, prior to commencement of residency training. The EFCMG website can be reviewed by clicking this link.
- All matched candidates must be able to pass background checks and drug testing to complete the onboarding process prior to orientation.
Family Medicine Interview Dates for the Match for AY 2023-2024
- Interviews will be scheduled between October 2024 and January 2025.
- Our FM program will be utilizing Thalamus this year for interview invitations and scheduling.
- Please provide as much notice as possible for cancellations to allow us time to fill your spot from our interview waitlist.
- Within 72 hours of self-selecting an interview date and time, you will receive a confirmation email with details about the virtual interview process.
Preparing for the Interview
- Review the detailed confirmation email once an interview date is scheduled.
- Review the either the Internal Medicine Program pages or the Family Medicine Program pages on our website.
- Review benefits and other area links about our beautiful Skagit Valley.
- If interviewing virtually, do a technology/device check prior to the interview day. This can be arranged with the program coordinator.

Helpful Hints
Review the website and prepare a list of questions for the Q&A sessions of the interview.
Have your email confirmation on hand during the interview for reference.
Follow-up with the program coordinator (Dora Driscoll for Family Medicine and Chantel Danger for Internal Medicine) for any further questions. Any questions or concerns will be directed to the program director or one of our faculty as appropriate.
Participate in the Resident Meet Up sessions to meet our residents in an informal setting and to ask questions about our program.
