Lung Surgeries with the Intuitive Ion Robotic Bronchoscopy
Skagit Regional Health offers Ion, a robotic-assisted platform for minimally invasive biopsy of the lung, at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon. The Ion system’s unprecedented stability and ultra-thin, ultra-maneuverable catheter enables navigation far into the peripheral lung allowing the surgical team to biopsy areas of the lung that were previously inaccessible. Candidates for robotic-assisted lung biopsies will have had a lung nodule identified on a CT scan.
According to the American Cancer Society, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. Diagnosing cancer early, when it is most treatable, is key to survival.
Lung patients who receive minimally invasive procedures benefit from shortened hospital stays which are typically as little as one day. Skagit Regional Health’s investment in the Ion platform complements the existing robotic-assisted surgical program and enables patients to receive all care, from lung biopsy to surgery, at Skagit Valley Hospital.
