Expert Foot and Ankle Services Provided at Skagit Regional Health

Provider showing patient modelSkagit Regional Health foot and ankle specialists are board-certified with a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree. Their specialized training requires four years of clinical training at an accredited podiatric medical school focused only on foot and ankle conditions, diagnosis and treatment. In addition, podiatrists spend an additional two to four years of surgical training in a hospital-based surgical residency program.

Innovations in Foot and Ankle Care

One of the reasons many patients come to Skagit Regional Health for foot and ankle expertise is joint pain – or their feet hurt when standing or when wearing certain shoes. Our trained experts help identify the problem and the types of shoes that work best for each patient’s individual foot needs.

Sometimes physical therapy can resolve foot and ankle problems without the need for surgery. However, in some cases, surgery is the best solution to resolve serious foot or ankle issues or deformities that are causing your pain. We provide the best solution for your unique condition, including conservative care, medication management, treatment or surgery.

What to Expect After Foot and Ankle Surgery

After surgery, our foot and ankle team provides patient education, so you’ll know what to expect after your surgical procedure. Many patients require non-weight bearing, or restricted use of putting weight on your foot, for improved healing. Each situation is unique and we work together with patients for optimal recovery.

Options for non-weight bearing include:

  • Crutches
  • Knee scooters
  • Walkers
