Endoscopic Diagnostics in your Community
What is Endoscopy?
An endoscopy is a medical procedure that examines the inside of your body using a flexible instrument called an endoscope. Different than other medical imaging methods, endoscopes are guided directly through openings in the body to the tissue for examination.
Endoscopy Screening Procedures for Cancer Prevention
A range of endoscopic procedures are used for cancer screenings to detect any potential issues. Your doctor may use colonoscopy to screen for and prevent colorectal cancer. During your colonoscopy procedure, your doctor may remove growths called polyps that potentially could develop into cancer. Colonoscopies are part of Skagit Regional Health’s Direct Access program, which means no doctor referral is necessary for healthy adults older than 50 with no colon-related symptoms. In Mount Vernon please call 360-814-5739 or in Arlington please call 360-618-7975 to help you schedule a routine colonoscopy for cancer prevention.
Other endoscopy procedures our team performs include esophagoscopy, a lighted tube that’s inserted through the mouth and into the esophagus. This may be used to check for abnormal tissue or areas of concern. Bronchoscopy is used to detect problems in the airways and lungs. Our team at Skagit Regional Health uses endoscopy procedures to detect cancer and other diseases in the following areas:
- Colon/rectum
- Esophagus
- Liver ducts
- Lungs
- Pancreas
- Small intestine
- Stomach
- Urinary tract
Your doctor will order the appropriate endoscopy procedure necessary depending on the site of the body to be observed.
