Values in Action: Integrity in Nursing

Integrity is one of five core values for Skagit Regional Health. This value states:

We act ethically and responsibly in everything we do and hold ourselves – and each other – accountable for our behavior.

Integrity plays a vital role in nursing because it helps build trust with patients during their most vulnerable time. It guides decision-making and ensures nurses do what is best for each individual.

MaryAnn Partain, RN, provides care to patients in the Critical Care Unit at Cascade Valley Hospital. She believes that her commitment to integrity in patient care earns her the trust of both her patients and their families. MaryAnn is honest and transparent in her communication, ensuring that patients and their families understand what the care plan involves, and the outcomes needed for a safe discharge.

MaryAnn also understands that nursing is a team effort. She collaborates with her peers to deliver the best possible patient experience, often helping colleagues when they are busy or away from the floor. With her ethics and morals in mind, integrity not only shapes the care she provides but also makes her a valued team member.
