Dr. Alexander Willis is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement surgery. He performs more than 350 primary and revision hip and knee replacement procedures annually and has performed well over 1,000 of each procedure. He utilizes evidence-based surgical techniques, minimally invasive approaches when appropriate, robotic-assisted technology, and enhanced recovery protocols to help patients recover safely and return to an active lifestyle.
For patients undergoing hip replacement, Dr. Willis frequently utilizes the direct anterior approach when appropriate, allowing many patients to experience less early postoperative pain, faster functional recovery and a quicker return to daily activities.
Dr. Willis earned his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Princeton University before receiving his medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. During medical school, he completed a research fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and a bioethics fellowship at the University of Oxford.
He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Monmouth Medical Center, with additional training in orthopedic trauma at University Hospital in Newark and pediatric orthopedic surgery at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He then completed fellowship training at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. This advanced fellowship provided extensive experience in reconstructive surgery, including revision hip and knee replacement.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Willis enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, skiing, playing soccer and tennis, and playing the piano. His active lifestyle gives him a personal appreciation for helping patients return to the activities they value most.
