Robotic-Assisted Surgery Optimizes the Patient Experience
In 2018, Skagit Regional Health was the first healthcare system north of Everett to offer the da Vinci® Xi™ Surgical System. This advanced, robotic-assisted technology is used for a wide spectrum of minimally invasive surgical procedures. Then, in August of 2023, the Globus ExcelsiusGPS® Robotic Navigation System, was added to our Surgical Services department to assist with precise back procedures. Robotic-assisted surgery is shown to improve patient outcomes, reduce recovery time and shorten hospital stays.
Performing Complex Procedures Through Small Incisions
The da Vinci® Xi™ Surgical System and the Globus ExcelsiusGPS® Xi™ Robotic Navigation System are housed at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon and are accessible for patients across the Skagit Regional
Health system needing a robotic surgery procedure offered by our

Robotic-Assisted Surgery for Back Surgeries with
the Globus ExcelsiusGPS® Robotic Navigation System
The Globus ExcelsiusGPS® Robotic Navigation system uses diagnostic images of the patient, that are displayed on a computer screen, to help guide surgeons in providing precise, minimally invasive procedures. The images help the surgeon create a surgical plan based on the patient’s individual anatomy and determine the size and placement of screws. The robotics and navigation reduce the length of procedures, improves accuracy and dramatically lowers the level of radiation exposure from fluoroscopy, which is good for the patient and the OR team. In addition, the smaller incisions mean less tissue damage and a shorter hospital stay.
Benefits of Robotic-Assisted Surgery
- 3D high-definition camera capability
- Faster recovery
- Less invasive surgery
- Enhanced view of the entire surgical area
- Precise technique
- Shorter hospital stay
- Smaller incisions - less than one-inch wide
