Sharing cardiac health and robotic surgery education in Skagit and Snohomish counties

Skagit Regional Health is dedicated to collaborating with our communities to promote health and wellness. Below is a list of community events and engagements that some of our providers and staff participated in during the month of March:

Basics of Heart Health – March 6

Stilly Valley Health Connections, in partnership with Skagit Regional Health, hosted “The Basics of Heart Health,” an informative session covering the basics of heart anatomy, the four categories of heart disease and the nine key risk factors for coronary artery disease.

Jeff Rhodes, Cardiac Rehab Supervisor at SRH, led the presentation, offering practical strategies for managing risks and improving heart health. The event was free and open to the public.

Mobile Blood Drive with Bloodworks Northwest – March 7 and 28

Bloodworks Northwest’s Bloodmobile held Mobile Blood Drives at the Skagit Valley Hospital parking lot on March 7 and at the Cascade Valley Hospital parking lot on March 28. To find a donor center or mobile drive near you, click here.

Camano Center 55+ Community Resource Fair – March 8

Skagit Regional Health sponsored the Camano Center 55+ Community Resource Fair on Camano Island. Connor Smith, BSN, RN, Cardiac and Stroke Coordinator at SRH, hosted a booth at the event where he provided information about SRH services and locations, offered education around stroke and cardiac health and distributed BE FAST cards to attendees. A total of 346 people attended the event.

Stilly Valley Health Connections Cooking Class – March 13

Stilly Valley Health Connections hosts monthly cooking classes taught by a registered dietitian nutritionist. Skagit Regional Health sponsored the March 13 class, “Homemade Pizzas and Flatbreads.” 

These cooking classes are free and the community is invited to attend in-person or online via Zoom. To view and register for upcoming classes, click here.

Mount Baker Middle School – March 19

Crissi Franulovich, RN, Robotics Coordinator, and Regina Sellers, BSN, Assistant Nurse Manager at Skagit Regional Health, were invited to speak to seventh- and eighth-grade students in the robotics class at Mount Baker Middle School. They gave a presentation on the robotic technology used in surgeries at Skagit Valley Hospital and distributed branded giveaway items to the 30 students in attendance.
