SRH staff participate in Annual Fowl Run Run, donate 532 pounds of food
Skagit Regional Health is dedicated to collaborating with our communities to promote health and wellness. Below is a list of community events and engagements that some of our providers and staff participated in for the month of November:
Boys and Girls Club of Skagit County Gala – November 2
Skagit Regional Health was a sponsor for the Boys and Girls Club of Skagit County’s Great Futures Gala. Support from sponsors and donors allows Boys and Girls Club of Skagit County to further their mission to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
Stop the Bleed – November 7
Skagit Regional Health instructors provided a STOP THE BLEED® training course at Stilly Valley Health Connections. This course was free and open to community members. Attendees were instructed how to recognize life-threatening bleeding and how to act quickly and effectively to control bleeding with three techniques.
Stilly Valley Health Connections Cooking Class – November 14
Stilly Valley Health Connections hosts monthly cooking classes taught by a registered dietitian nutritionist. Skagit Regional Health sponsored November’s class, “Diabetes-Friendly One Pot Meals” held on November 14.
Cooking classes are free and the community is invited to attend in-person or online via Zoom. The next cooking class, “Holiday Hosting Recipes and Tips,” will be held on Thursday, December 12. To register, click here to attend in person or click here to attend online.
Fowl Fun Run – November 16
On Saturday, November 16, nearly 100 employees from Skagit Regional Health enthusiastically participated in the 46th Annual Fowl Fun Run in Mount Vernon. The event featured both a 5K and a 10K run, with participants enjoying the scenic, flat courses through the Skagit Valley.
Three standout performances came from SRH employees Joseph Barker, Jason Matta and Katelyn Pinkerton, who impressively beat “Tom the Turkey” in the 10K race. As participants finished the race, they celebrated with pumpkin pie and hot tea and coffee at the finish line, adding a fun and competitive spirit to the event.
In addition to the run, SRH’s Employee Experience team partnered with Community Action to organize a food drive. Led by Jacob Tobey and Glynna Goff, this initiative saw a remarkable collection of 532 pounds of food. The Skagit Runners Club, which organized the race, also contributed by running a matching effort in collaboration with Mount Vernon High School, further amplifying the impact of the food drive. Materials Management loaned the use of one of their vans to deliver the food, and Brian Schuman, SRH Regional Director of Security, donated his time to pick up the food at the race and drive it to the Community Action Food Distribution Center.
The Fowl Fun Run not only provided a platform for physical activity and community spirit but also demonstrated the collective effort of SRH employees in supporting local charitable causes.
Mobile Blood Drive with Bloodworks NW – November 29
Bloodworks NW’s Bloodmobile was parked outside of Skagit Regional Health – Smokey Point on November 29 for their Mobile Blood Drive. They were able to register 15 donors and collect 13 units of blood.
Thank you to our community partners and our staff for your continued dedication with providing services to our communities.
