Cornhole tournament, fair and BBQ: SRH staff connects with community through summer events
Skagit Regional Health is dedicated to collaborating with our communities to promote health and wellness. Below is a list of community events and engagements that some of our providers and staff participated in the month of August:
National Night Out – August 6
The City of Mount Vernon Parks and Recreation Department and Police Department hosted the annual National Night Out event at Edgewater Park. This event is a national community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and building community in a broader sense.
Paul Ross, Trauma Program Manager, Marcia Campbell, Plant Operations Project Coordinator, and Brian Schuman, Regional Director of Security and Emergency Management represented Skagit Regional Health at the event. At their booth, they covered STOP THE BLEED®, handed out giveaway items and shared information on how to pack an emergency go-bag.
Skagit County Fair – August 8, 9 and 11
Skagit Regional Health sponsored the handwashing stations at this year’s Skagit County Fair. Our sponsorship provided six stations for fairgoers to wash their hands during the three-day event.
On August 9, the Fair held Safety and Preparedness Day. There were educational booths, interactive safety displays, giveaways and activities for all ages. Paul Ross, Trauma Program Manager at Skagit Regional Health, shared information about the STOP THE BLEED® program at the Skagit EMS booth.
Arlington Farm Tours Cornhole Tournament – August 9 and 10
Arlington Farm Tours is an annual celebration that takes place the second week of August. The event offers a unique opportunity to explore the scenic farms of Arlington, providing an educational adventure for all ages. Local businesses participated in the two-day cornhole tournament at Legion Park. All proceeds from the tournament benefited the Arlington Food Bank. Skagit Regional Health sponsored the Arlington Farm Tours and the cornhole tournament. David Hoover and Josh Strand, staff nurses at the Cascade Valley Hospital Emergency Department, participated in the tournament on behalf of Skagit Regional Health. Congratulations to David and Josh for taking first place!
Skagit Senior Day in the Park – August 15
The 18th annual Skagit Senior Day in the Park was held at Maiben Park on August 15. There were more than 55 vendors present sharing resources on healthy living, live music and brown bag lunch provided by Skagit County Meals on Wheels.
About 500 people attended this year’s event. Conner Smith, Cardiac and Stroke Coordinator, and Paul Ross, Trauma Program Manager, attended the event and shared information on STOP THE BLEED® and stroke education.
Darrington Back to School BBQ – August 28
Staff and providers from Skagit Regional Health – Darrington Family Medicine were present at the Darrington Back to School BBQ. This event is held annually at the beginning of each school year for students and their families. Clinic staff had a table at the event with a prize wheel for attendees to spin and win branded giveaway items. They also offered immunization education, information about SRH services and other resources to parents present.
Thank you to our community partners and our staff for your continued dedication with providing services to our communities.
