Malik Fuimaono, MD, Internal Medicine Core Faculty for the Graduate Medical Education (GME) program at Skagit Regional Health, has been named the Preceptor of the Year for the Mount Vernon region by Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU)

Each year, the PNWU graduating class votes on the preceptor of the year for their region. There are 12 regions, one of which is Mount Vernon. Dr. Fuimaono was selected for this honor by the students in this region.

Preceptoring is a job Dr. Fuimaono finds great purpose in. When asked what preceptoring means to him, he replied, “Preceptoring means I need to model to the medical students what a great physician looks like by the way I show empathy to my patients, the way I communicate respectfully with my nurse and ensuring psychological safety is achieved in the teams I lead.”

Dr. Fuimaono was recognized in the 2023 PNWU College of Osteopathic Medicine Commencement Program on Saturday, May 20 and at the GME Graduation on June 24.

“I would like to thank PNWU for this great honor,” said Dr. Fuimaono. “I want to thank the medical students who remind me of my ‘Why’ - the reason I wanted to be a doctor. I would also like to thank my family and my hospitalist team for their support.”

Congratulations to Dr. Fuimaono on this honor!
