The class had previously expressed interest in learning about positions in the operating room and the education and training needed for each role. Areli and Crissi took this speaking opportunity to highlight roles that the students may not have been aware of, such as Physician Assistant, Surgical Technician and Sterile Processing Technician.

Areli and Crissi also covered topics including infection prevention, the sterile field and the importance of maintaining aseptic technique in a surgical environment. They even took a back pack table for the class to see and touch the instruments and equipment typically used in an OR

The students seemed to have fun learning how to sterile gown and glove for surgery. They enjoyed touching and feeling the surgical instruments and asked great questions about the use of each tool. Afterwards, two student moms shared feedback with Crissi claiming that their kids expressed really liking the visit.

Thank you Areli and Crissi for your willingness to share this information with kids in our community and highlighting career opportunities in surgical services
