December Construction Update: Mount Vernon Surgery Center

Covered Concrete at Mount Vernon Surgery Center

On November 29, another major concrete pour took place for the third floor. Due to the cold, wet and snowy weather, the concrete was covered the next day with orange curing blankets to keep the concrete at the right temperature for the curing process. The process also includes taking samples of the concrete to test it for strength. Cylinders of concrete are taken to the Geotest lab in Bellingham where they use equipment to crush the cylinders and measure the strength of concrete. When the strength measurement reaches 3,000 pounds per square inch, the concrete is at full strength and the curing blankets can come off.

Meanwhile, exterior wall framing on the first and second floors is well under way along with roof framing. Interior wall layout is also progressing. The project is on schedule with the target for opening in December 2023.
