LifeCenter Northwest representatives express appreciation

Skagit Regional Health receives Collaboration Achievement Award from LifeCenter Northwest.

Skagit Valley Hospital Leaders Presented with LifeCenter AwardDominic Adorno, Vice President of Clinical Services and Managers Justin Frank and Tiffany McKellar, representing LifeCenter Northwest, presented Skagit Regional Health with the “Collaboration Achievement Award,” for outstanding performance in organ donation collaboration to Chief Medical Officer Connie Davis, MD. In addition, he presented the “Donation Innovation Award,” honoring the organization’s demonstration of a commitment to careful evaluation of organ donation processes and improving outcomes, to Regional Director of Surgical Services Kelly Bradford, Progressive and Critical Care Clinical Manager Karen Watkins and Regional Director of Emergency Services Jessica Bell. LifeCenter Northwest is dedicated to saving lives through organ and tissue donation as a federally designated nonprofit organ procurement organization.

“The Donation Innovation Award is presented to one hospital that has demonstrated a commitment to careful evaluation of their organ donation processes and has taken specific steps to improve outcomes. Over the past two years, Skagit Valley Hospital, located in Mount Vernon, Washington, has made great strides to improve their donation knowledge, involvement and outcomes. They began by bringing leadership representatives from the emergency department, ICU and OR into quarterly meetings to discuss the donation activity within those units. Informational material about how to keep the donation option open was utilized in the ICU, referral check boxes were added to shift report sheets and donation referrals became a regular topic on shift change FROM LEFT TO RIGHT: Chief Medical Officer Connie Davis, MD, and Vice President of Clinical Services Dominic Adorno, Regional Director of Surgical Services Kelly Bradford, Progressive and Critical Care Clinical Manager Karen Watkins and Regional Director of Emergency Services Jessica Bell. huddles and multidisciplinary rounds. Last year, they sent staff to attend a Donation Leaders Training at LifeCenter Northwest to look deeper into the donation process and learn ways they could improve. Skagit Valley Hospital examined multiple processes within their facility to identify ways to innovate and change processes to continuously support donation. This focus and intention produced their highest numbers for both potential and actual donors last year and has helped Skagit Valley increase their timely vented referral rate from 47 to 86 percent in roughly 18 months. Congratulations to Skagit Valley Hospital. We are honored to work with you and look forward to continued success for 2019.”
