Wayfinding Update: Exterior signage begins installation

Aug 21, 2019, 12:34 PM
Exterior signage is updated at Skagit Valley Hospital

A significant part of the wayfinding experience happens before our patients even park their cars. Knowing which lot is closest to their appointment, and directing them toward the correct building, are two important aspects of a good patient experience.

Directional Monument SignStarting on August 19, exterior signage began installation across the Mount Vernon Campus. This includes two important elements:

Directional Monument Signs
The monument signs currently installed on street corners will be refreshed to provide directions to different buildings across campus. These are high-level signs intended to direct patients toward the correct area of campus.

Parking Lot Designations
Each region of campus has been assigned a color zone. Inside each of these color zones is one or more parking lots that have been identified by an icon.

During the exterior signage installation, monument signs for each lot will be updated to indicate the color and icon for that lot. Additionally, flags will be applied to the light poles, so patients can see the lot designations from a distance. For example, the Purple Eagle lots will have monument signs and light pole flags like those shown below.

Parking Lot Flags

Beginning September 1, the goal will be to communicate the appropriate lot designation to patients coming for appointments and procedures. Work is underway to update department boarding passes and the appointment language in Epic to align with the updated exterior wayfinding.
