Orthopedics, OsteoporosisFracture prevention program begins
Osteoporosis is a serious medical disorder with bone fractures occurring in approximately one in three women over the age of 50, as well as one in five men of similar age. Approximately 80 percent of individuals who have already sustained a fragility fracture do not receive adequate screening or treatment for this condition.
The Endocrinology Department at Skagit Regional Health is launching a Fracture Prevention Program in October to help address this disparity. The program design is based on the National Osteoporosis Foundation’s recommendations to help tailor treatment recommendations to better address the specific cause of bone health disease and to further reduce an individuals’ risk for suffering a fracture. To reach the Endocrinology Department, call 360-814-6315.
