Planned Giving Program
Sometimes a patient or their family wish to make a gift to Skagit Regional Health as a way of saying thank you for the exemplary care they have received. Planned gifts are welcomed through the Skagit Regional Health Foundation at any time.
Some individuals are more interested in delaying their gift – these are called “planned gifts.” Planned gifts can benefit Skagit Regional Health and members of our communities for years to come.
If you are interested in making a planned gift to the Skagit Regional Health Foundation, contact our office at 360-428-2140. The Foundation staff is available to answer your questions. You may also email Foundation Executive Director Linda Frizzell.
Common types of Planned Gifts
Gift of a Bequest
There are several different ways for you to make a charitable bequest through your will. Here are a few ways in which you can give:
- Designate a specific dollar amount
- Designate a certain percentage of your assets
- Designate a percentage of the estate residue
The Skagit Regional Health Foundation has created an informational bequest brochure as a service to its faithful friends and supporters. The brochure, titled Where There's a Will There's a Way was designed to familiarize you with various issues you may want to consider. Call the Foundation office at 360-428-2140 if you would like to receive a copy.
Gift of Stocks and Bonds

Gift of Real Estate
A gift of appreciated real property (such as your home, vacation property, vacant land, farmland or commercial property) can make a great gift. Here are some of the potential benefits:
- Avoid paying capital gains tax
- Receive a charitable income tax deduction
- Leave a lasting legacy
Your real property may be gifted to our organization by executing or signing a deed transferring ownership. You may deed part or all of your real property. Your gift will generally be based on the property’s fair market value, which must be established by an independent appraisal.
Gift of Retirement Assets
A gift of your retirement assets (IRA, 401K, 403(b) or pension) is an excellent way to make a gift. Did you know that 50-60 percent of your retirement assets may be taxed if you leave them to your heirs at your death? Your retirement assets may be transferred to us by completing a beneficiary designation form provided by your plan custodian. If you designate the Skagit Regional Health Foundation as beneficiary, the Foundation will benefit from the full value of your gift because your IRA assets will be not be taxed at your death.
