A gift from the heart, for the heart
Huntly Gordon, a beloved Skagit Valley native, passed away in April 2024, but thanks to a gift from his wife Sandee Gordon, his impact on the lives of others continues.
During his health journey, Huntly found solace and strength in a place that became much more than just a cardiac rehabilitation class. He participated in the exercise classes at Skagit Regional Health’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, a program that helped him defy the odds and outlive his prognosis. His wife recalls that it wasn’t just the physical therapy that made a difference—it was the camaraderie, the social connections and the kindness that surrounded him.
“I honestly believe that his attendance in his rehab class helped to keep Huntly alive much longer than his prognosis,” Sandee reflects. “Not only because he was exercising with trained professionals, but because of the friendships and the love he experienced there. He made very close friends.”
Sandee, who served as the Director of Volunteer Services at Skagit Valley Hospital for many years, wanted to honor Huntly’s memory in a meaningful way. She contacted the Skagit Regional Health Foundation and a plan was hatched. In a beautiful tribute to both her husband and the care he received, she donated a treadmill to the hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. An inscribed plaque now adorns the machine, reading: "In Honor of Huntly Gordon – a golfer and a gentleman." It’s a perfect tribute to a man who cherished a good round of golf and, above all, lived his life well.
Through Sandee’s heartfelt tribute, Huntly’s memory will continue to inspire the community and help future patients on their own journeys to health and healing.
